Thirsty Thursday - Muddled Pear Martini

Vodka! We haven't done a drink yet with one of my favorite's: Vodka! My body seems to like this hard liquor over the others, I seem to have less of a hangover the next day. Maybe it has something to do with it's purity? Speaking of purity I found this great brand of Vodka made in our own backyard: Idaho. Check out 44 Degree's North Vodka. (http://www.44northvodka.com) I love cherry and huckleberry too and think we could make another great recipe with these!

But back to my drink. One of my favorite hang outs pre-children served a Muddled Pear Martini that was my favorite drink of all time. I am trying to recreate it. Here goes nothing:

Sam Choy's Kitchen recipe: Fresh Asian Pear Martini (Muddled)

1 oz. Fresh Asian Pear
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Cranberry Juice
½ tsp. white granulated sugar (muddled)

Place 1 oz. of fresh, skinless Asian Pear in the bottom of a mixer glass and top with ½ tsp. of white granulated sugar. Muddle the coarse sugar with the Asian Pear until slightly smooth. Once the pear and sugar is muddled, place cubed ice over the top of the mixture and add 1 oz. of Vodka and 1 oz. Cranberry Juice. Shake the cocktail in a Boston Shaker and glass assembly and then strain the cocktail into a chilled martini glass. Garnish the martini with a thin slice of fresh Asian Pear.

With Pear season coming up, keep this one in your back pocket. Cheers!
